Huge Investment in Offshore Windfarms

We provided commercial resource in the Netherlands for the East Anglia One offshore windfarm and look forward to further opportunities which will arise because of recent significant investments.

The low oil price seems likely to last for some time and this will have a huge impact on investment in new offshore oil and gas infrastructure projects, inevitably many jobs will be lost as a result. It is therefore good to see that investment in offshore windfarms continues, even as the impact of COVID-19 develops, which will create huge employment opportunities for offshore related employers.

This week Total acquired a majority stake in the Seagreen 1 development and will work with SSE Renewables on a £3bn investment located 27 kilometres from the coastline in Scottish waters of UK North Sea.

Also this week the following announcements were made:

- EDF Renewables announced that construction will commence on the €2bn Fécamp offshore wind farm in France.

- Vatenfall announced that they will invest in the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore windfarm in the Netherlands. Upon completion in 2023 this will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world.

A busy week in offshore renewables, long may it continue!
